Raymond Westbrook
Raymond Westbrook passed away on July 23, 2009. Dr. Westbrook was Professor of Near Eastern Studies at John Hopkins University, where he taught for two decades. He was a world-renowned expert on biblical law in its ancient Near Eastern context. He wrote or edited several books, including the newly released Everyday Law in Biblical Israel, coauthored with Bruce Wells.
Graham Stanton
Graham Norman Stanton, Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity Emeritus at Cambridge University, passed away on July 18, 2009, at the age of 69. A respected New Testament scholar, Dr. Norman served for nine years as editor of New Testament Studies. In 2006, the British Academy awarded him with the Burkitt Medal, which recognizes special service to the field of biblical studies. He is the author of A Gospel for a New People, published by Westminster John Knox Press, among other works. He is survived by his wife, Esther, and three children.
James E. Dittes
James E. Dittes passed away on August 24, 2009. He was the Roger J. Squire Professor Emeritus of Pastoral Theology at Yale Divinity School, where he taught for forty-seven years. He also served first as Executive Secretary and then President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. In 1996, the James Dittes Scholarship, open to all Yale Divinity School students, was created in his honor. Dr. Dittes wrote several books, including three for WJK: Pastoral Counseling: The Basics; Driven by Hope: Men and Meaning; and Men at Work: Life beyond the Office. He is survived by his wife, his three daughters, and six grandchildren.
