Awards and Recognition
The Association of Theological Booksellers named Westminster John Knox Press's Feasting on the Word, Year B, their 2009 Book of the Year. The Theologos Awards are given based on the unique, professional evaluations of sellers of academic religious books. Edited by David L. Bartlett and Barbara Brown Taylor, Feasting on the Word has been heralded as the most ecumenical and comprehensive of the lectionary commentaries. Several Westminster John Knox Press titles were nominated for the Theologos Best Academic Book Award, including Eccentric Existence, by David Kelsey; A Fine-Tuned Universe, by Alister McGrath; and Theological Bible Commentary, by Gail R. O'Day and David L. Petersen.
Revelation (NTL) by Brian K. Blount has been selected as the top reference book of the year by the Academy of Parish Clergy (APC) for their annual awards program! In addition, both The Ten Commandments by Patrick D. Miller and Preaching from Memory to Hope by Thomas G. Long were included in the APC's list of top ten books published in 2009. The awards were formally announced on April 20-22, 2010 at APC's Annual Conference. Books are selected for their excellence, newness of subject, and appropriateness for the spiritual growth, academic excellence, and development of the art, practice, and skills of congregational leadership.
Accompany Them with Singing–The Christian Funeral by Thomas G. Long was named a finalist for the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award. The finalists, representing 360 publishers, were selected from 1,400 entries in 60 categories. These books are examples of independent publishing at its best. The magazine, which called the book "compulsively readable and engaging," will announce the winners on May 25, 2010 at BookExpo America in New York City. |
