Dr. Marianne Blickenstaff Joins WJK as Acquisitions Editor
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Marianne Blickenstaff has joined Westminster John Knox Press as an acquisitions editor.
Blickenstaff worked most recently for Abingdon Press, where from 2004 until this year she served as lead reference editor for the five-volume New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible. She holds a PhD in New Testament from Vanderbilt University and an MATS from United Theological Seminary. She coedited with Amy-Jill Levine the Feminist Companion to the New Testament and Early Christian Writings series, and is the author of While the Bridegroom Is with Them: Marriage, Family, Gender, and Violence in the Gospel of Matthew (T&T Clark).
"We're excited to be able to add someone of Marianne's academic credentials who also has significant publishing experience," said David Dobson, WJK Executive Director of Publishing. "Marianne bolsters an already impressive editorial staff consisting of Dr. Jon Berquist, Dr. Donald K. McKim, Dr. Jana Riess, and Rev. David L. Maxwell."
Blickenstaff, an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has been adjunct faculty at Belmont University and served as education staff for two presbyteries. In addition, she has taught numerous Bible classes for laypeople and has written curriculum for youth.
"I look forward to working with the many fine WJK authors and editors whose fine scholarship, creative energy, and commitment to excellence do so much to build up the people of God," Blickenstaff said.
Dr. Beverly Roberts Gaventa, Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis at Princeton Theological Seminary and Senior Consulting Editor for WJK, said, "The appointment of Marianne Blickenstaff is a masterstroke for religious publishing in general and for WJK in particular. She brings to her new position a rare combination of editorial experience, scholarly acumen, and ecclesiastical commitment. I predict that both new and established authors will delight in working with her."
Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School, said Blickenstaff would make an excellent acquisitions editor. "Marianne combines informed scholarship with religious sensitivity, a deep concern for justice, organizational tenacity, and a great sense of humor."
Dr. Brian Blount, President of Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education and a coeditor of the New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, said, "Marianne Blickenstaff is a wonderful editor. She is gifted at the details of writing and has a knack for helping authors develop their potential into the best possible draft. She also has an eye for creative angles that an author may have missed. She will bring a sense of joy and inquisitive spirit to her work that I have no doubt will be energizing for new and seasoned authors alike."
Blickenstaff began work January 4. She will work from her home in Nashville until she moves to Louisville at some point in the future. She can be reached at mblickenstaff@wjkbooks.com, 615-347-7710, 6920 Highland Park Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37205.
