The internet has rapidly become a primary resource for information seekers, while the popularity of print is fading. If you are not already doing so, it is in your best interest to become familiar with the online community if you hope to successfully market your book. You'll find some wonderful suggestions below.

Amazon Author Central

Tell your friends to write positive reviews of your work on Amazon.com. Potential buyers read these reviews when considering whether to purchase your book. We also encourage you to use Amazon Author Central, a unique interactive program for book promotion available only to authors. Amazon Author Central is a FREE program that allows you to:

  • Communicate directly with your readers–send messages to readers who bought your book through Amazon.com.

  • Increase readership–exchanges will be posted on your "Search Inside the Book" pages, attracting a more personalized interest in your book from more people.

  • Build a Reader Community–build a one-to-one relationship with your readers.

  • Use special online tools to create your own Author Profile Page with personalized information.

Social Networking

Online social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have become enormously popular. They allow you to create an account dedicated to you and your books and connect directly with readers. It's easy and it's FREE. The Red Room Writers Society has also created a social networking site dedicated exclusively to writers at Redroom.com. Another very useful online community tool can be found at Beliefnet.com.

Blogging

Never underestimate the power of blogs. You can create your own blog for FREE at Blogger.com, Typepad.com, or Wordpress.com, on which you can post information about you and your work. It is also a good idea to interact with other bloggers: find bloggers who might be interested in your work, comment on their posts, and link to their sites on your own blog. They may feel inclined to return the favor! You can search for blogs using blogsearch.google.com.
