PC(USA) | Cokesbury | SCM-Canterbury Press | Pilgrim Press & Wood Lake Books | SPCK
The Thoughtful Christian | Alban Books Ltd

PC(USA)
With a publishing tradition of now more than 170 years, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) is a financially self-sustaining agency of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and is governed by a board of directors elected by the denomination’s General Assembly. PPC publishes approximately 95 books per year under its major trade imprint, Westminster John Knox Press (WJK), plus its Presbyterian-specific publishing imprint, Geneva Press. Combined, the publishing company has more than 1,600 active titles in print and sold around the world.

Sales of books and resources help PPC underwrite a variety of benevolence programs as a way of contributing to the larger mission and ministry of the PC(USA). For example, PPC, in partnership with the program areas of the Office of the General Assembly and General Assembly Council, sends complimentary “Equipping the Saints” packages to newly ordained ministers of the Word and Sacrament, plus to new church developments (“In the Beginnings”), and churches suffering the effects of natural disasters (“Disaster Relief”). PPC also works closely with the PC(USA) Worldwide Ministries Division to supply academic books, commentaries, and reference materials to seminaries in second- and third-world countries in a program called “Books without Borders.”

PPC books and resources are presented and sold at all national PC(USA) events such as the General Assembly, Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators, the Church-wide Gathering of Presbyterian Women, and the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, plus at evangelism and church development conferences and a host of regional Presbyterian gatherings.

In addition to PPC’s toll-free number and Web site, PPC books and resources can also be ordered from the
Presbyterian Marketplace Web site. To see how PPC’s resources are being used for ministry in the PC(USA), please visit the Office of Theology and Worship Web site.

Cokesbury
In 1995, Cokesbury and PPC established a unique alliance and partnership for Christian growth and ministry. PPC designated Cokesbury the official retail supplier to the PC(USA), and Cokesbury pledged to better serve the needs of the PC(USA), the larger ecumenical church, plus the general public through a broader distribution of WJK and Geneva Press books and resources.

PPC products are now available in all of the nearly seventy Cokesbury stores, on www.cokesbury.com, and in regular printed catalogs from Cokesbury, including one annual catalog specifically dedicated and distributed to the 11,000-plus churches of the PC(USA). In return, Cokesbury remains endorsed by PPC as the exclusive retail partner/distributor of the PC(USA).

Cokesbury is the retail division of The United Methodist Publishing House, making this an extra-special example in ecumenical cooperation. For more information, visit Cokesbury’s main Web site. Other important Cokesbury links include these:

SCM-Canterbury Press, Ltd.
As part of its trade-sales operations, WJK provides exclusive sales representation and distribution services in the United States for SCM-Canterbury Press, Ltd., London, part of the international Hymns Ancient and Modern group of companies, a registered charity.

For more than eighty years, SCM Press has been one of the United Kingdom’s best-known publishers of academic theology. Many of the religious community’s most widely acclaimed and historically significant bestsellers carried the SCM Press publishing imprint, as did the first English translations of pioneering theologians including Barth, Bonhoeffer, Bultmann, Gutierrez, and Moltmann.

Canterbury Press is a fast-growing SCM trade imprint and publisher of popular religious books and resources, plus gift stationery for the general, religious, and church markets. Among its recent publications are high-quality liturgical books, many linked to the Church of England Common Worship, as well as general-market nonfiction within the religion category. Through its SCM partnership, WJK also distributes titles bearing the Epworth Press and Deo imprints.

Wholesale buyers may purchase books from SCM-Canterbury Press direct from PPC or from any major U.S. book distributor. Individuals may order SCM titles through PPC, from bookstores, and through online catalogers. A comprehensive U.S. catalog is now available. See the related link, or request a hard copy from Bill Falvey, Director of Sales, Westminster John Knox Press, 100 Witherspoon Street, Louisville, KY 40202.

TTC Partners
PPC recognizes a wealth of denominational partnerships through its online resource center, TheThoughtfulChristian.com. While the real value of these TTC partnerships resides with the generation and enhanced distribution of studies through an ecumenical melting pot of denominations, PPC also pays a commission to each TTC partner for any and all TTC studies purchased through the partner denomination. Therefore, TTC partners can provide their denominations with a sophisticated, up-to-the-minute resource center, full of low-cost, high-quality studies, with no out-of-pocket investment, and while sharing in a new revenue stream. There are more than two hundred study units available on the TTC Web site already, varying in length from one to four sessions, for both group and individual use. More studies are added to the site each week, along with articles examining pertinent religious issues in the TTC Reading Room. While certain studies are expressly provided for those of a given faith, the majority are ecumenical in content and sensitive to all Christian beliefs. The site has already attracted more than four thousand regular users from dozens of denominations. For additional information on the TTC partnership program, contact Bill Falvey by phone or e-mail, as listed above. To learn more about TheThoughtfulChristian.com resource center, visit the TTC Web site.
