The Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) plans to hold a publishing conference for young scholars of color and to publish a monograph book series as part of a $100,000 gift from First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, Texas.
The conference will seek to educate new scholars in several topics related to publishing, including how to put a proposal together, how to revise their dissertation for publication, and how to make writing a part of their career, among other topics. It will be open to younger scholars of color who are in their first few years of teaching at the college, seminary, or graduate school level.
The book series will be open to young scholars publishing a specialized monograph that otherwise might not see enough sales to support its publication.
“These will be books of great interest to a very specialized audience of scholars and students that we would not be able to publish without a funding subvention,” said David Dobson, PPC’s president and publisher. “We’re incredibly grateful to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Wort for this gift.”
“The Session of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth was pleased to make a gift of $100,000 to the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation’s A New Story campaign in gratitude for the important and impactful ministry of PPC in the life of the church and the academy,” said Rev. Michael Waschevski of First Presbyterian Church. “The gift from First Presbyterian was designated for the Supporting Scholarship initiative of the campaign and was given in memory of Marjorie Lewis, Jeannie Davis, and Ginny Richards–three inspiring congregational leaders and supporters of meaningful adult Christian Education who advocated for and included conversations with academic scholars writing on a variety of issues related to Christian faith and discipleship. First Presbyterian particularly looks forward to PPC’s plans to mentor young scholars and publish their work in order for the church and academy to continue meaningful and important conversations concerning the life of Christian faith and discipleship.”
